Registration

  • Per rower, before 9/20. After 9/20 the fee will increase to $45

    Entry fees are considered a donation, are non-refundable and payable in advance. In the case of a race cancellation all registration fees
    will be returned.

    Note: Please ensure you add the correct number of tickets for your ENTIRE team before completing your registration. As you complete registration, click "add guests" to provide the names of your teammates and ensure you have paid the per-rower fee.

    Payment is expected at registration, and will only be accepted online. No payments for individual rowers will be accepted unless the boat is a single person boat.

    Example: You are registering an American Whaleboat, which has 5 rowers and 1 coxswain. You will purchase a total of 6 tickets on this one registration.

Calling all kayaks, canoes, row boats, dories, gigs and whaleboats!


This open water race starts and finishes at beautiful Onset harbor. Race Courses are up to three miles.

  • Coast Guard approved PFD for each person
  • Whistle
  • Bailing device

It is REQUIRED for Coxswains and Boatsteerers and strongly recommended that rowers wear PFDs. It is recommended that participants wear water shoes to protect your feet at the launch site and clothes for cold-water immersion. All items inside the boat should be secured and protected in the event of a capsize.

Rowers may face tide and/or wind issues. Please remember, it is on the water courtesy to check if a capsized boater needs assistance. Canoes must be seaworthy as this event is for experienced open water canoeists only. As with all on-water activities, safety should be the first concern of all participants and organizers. The Onset Rowing Challenge Race Committee reserves the right to cancel the race or keep individual boats from setting forth due to weather conditions or rower skill level.

Numbers should be placed high on the bow of the starboard side of the boat.

Race Briefing: All boatsteerers, kayakers and row boaters must attend.

Race Course: The race will start near the pier heading towards Wickets Island, row past it keeping it on your starboard side. Continue past Onset Island, also keeping it on the starboard side. Around a few markers and follow the channel back to the beach.


Race Start (subject to change on race day)

This race will be a standing start in waves/heats

Wave One: All kayaks and non-coxed boats

Wave Two: All American & Azorean Whaleboats

Wave Three: All other coxed boats

The Award Ceremony will take place immediately following the race inside Onset Bay Center. First, second and third prizes in multiple categories.

Refreshments will be provided to all registered race participants.
